Sons of the sod

This cartoon was originally published in Ethical Consumer magazine.

YOUR OPINION PLEASE, ON THE FOLLOWING:-
I'm about to commit to a domain name for this new website that is, honestly, about to go live. I am given to understand that the title Throbgoblins (international or otherwise) is something of a turn-off for many as it sounds like some sort of pornographic smurf movie. So I would welcome any feedback on whether I should keep it or just go with my own name. I know that a rose by any other name would still smell of old man and wet fox, but I have to plump for something, and it might as well be something somebody somewhere quite likes.

you probably should consider your 'brand' - irksome as it sounds and how you want to present yourself across the wider world of web... do you plan to use twitter/facebook etc in the future? if so it's best practice to use the same name for all your presences.. is the web siteprimarily for your cartoons or do you have wider ambitions? if it was me, i'd register your own name as the domain... you should be able then to have email sent to it, eg throbgoblins@marcroberts.com...

Sadly, I think they are right; your name would be best. I always liked Throbgoblins but hopefully people coming here would find a link.

Looking forward to this, though my time is limited so keeping up will be intermittent. Andy Revkin is still a fan, as you probably know ...

I tend to agree with Stately if income from the site is a consideration, though I notice that marcroberts.com is taken (unless you have struck first). Throbgoblins.com is not, and base considerations aside, has a fine ring to it.

It also has the advantage of being almost exclusive (try throbgoblins in Google to see what I mean) – you have almost the whole first page which is very unusual. It also finds you first if misspelt in several different ways ie Throb goblins, Throbgobblins etc etc. Thus people who may have heard of you can find you easily.

So my vote – go with the Goblins…..

I'd stay stick to the bland on the outside : marcroberts in some form or other, then give it to them both barrels when they don't expect it : perhaps...
